Maybe you'll be surprised, but I've never been abroad before.
For me, this project was like a first trip to Europe (even if, imaginary). I realized, firstly, how important it is to know english language and secondly, that is easier to learn in this way - by talking with peers from Europe. I enjoyed all the things we have done together...and due to this collaboration, I can say that my world and my mind have been opened a little more.

The four topics

In the final part of the project students divided into international groups to work on different topics. They chose to work on graffiti, how to keep our schools clean, young people and ecology and adverts aimed at young people. As the Polish and Norwegian students were already sitting their exams (hope you did well) this part was mainly worked on by the Romanian and German students. The presentations were made in group work.

Skype Session

On 6 May - the European day for schools - the Polish and German schools managed to arrange a skype session which was great fun. You can see some pictures in the presentation, read two newspaper articles and read the reactions of the students.

Hey,

We talked today in our 4.lesson with students from Poland across Skype, to meet some People. My Skype Partner was Magdalena, I asked her much questions like how old she is,  where her place of residence is, what there hobbies are, what the typical food in Poland is and lots of more questions. It was a nice experience to talk with other students from other countries. Magdalena asks me also questions like how the Kaufmannschule II is. We talk the full lesson, it was very funny. I would be very glad when we repeat this in shortly. I understood Magdalena not so good, because the conversation was badly. But therefore we writ in the Chat and guide our Conversation so.

Skype…


Hey, today we have at school with people from Poland skyped. We saw the people about a camera and we have talk with a headset to him. Unfortunately, one could not understand them so well, but by the chat was himself then nevertheless felt good to maintain. We wrote about hobbies, interests, family, origin etc.

The Skype session was very funny and interesting. It was cool to talk to other nationalities in different languages (English, Spanish, Polish and German).

The classes were loud but we understand each other good. ;-)

We have laughed a lot and we exchange our E-Mail addresses. We hope you liked it too and we would like to do it again.

Hey, today we’ve skyped with some students from Poland, it was very funny, but at the beginning it was a bit strange. Our teacher gave us short question, to start the conversation.  But it was a bit sadly that we couldn’t speak with them because the connection was to bad, in favor we have a nice picture to see. We laughed a lot, and have something in common . I would be very happy to repeat this.

Hello

My name is Karina and I want to tell you something about the conversation we had today.
At the beginning it was really exiting when we start to talk.
I was on a Computer with two other girls, called Finesia and Sara.

Then a boy from Poland called us and we start to talk but it was a little bit difficult to understand each other because the internet connection doesn’t work sometimes.

In my Opinion it was a good idea to find something out about pupils in other countrys and I would like to do this again.

The pupils were also very friendly and speak good English.

Brainstorming

TThe teachers had a chat to decide how to work in this project. It was clear that we wanted the students to be actively involved. Our students said that they were interested in several aspects and we focused on energy and pollution. In order to give the pupils a chance to have their say we used walls for collecting ideas (using padlet). After that students decided which topic they wanted to work on.

Do you have summer all year, or do you have a real winter with minus degrees and snow? The summer must be great where you live, we've mostly got rain in the summer here in Norway, so we don't get to bathe as much, and we don't really get any tan either. It must be nice to have a warm summer with lots of sun and bathing! The answer is:

Yes, each course has a set of standard classes (english, norwegian, math, history and similar) and the college preporatory courses focuses mainly on these kind of classes, for instance our class has to take norwegian, history and gym, and we can choose up to four of these: Physics, chemistry, maths, biology, social studies, psychology, extra gym and english.

Dear friends!
I liked how you made the school presentation. Besides that, everything in your school is very nice and modern. I saw you can take driving lessons in school. I'd like to know how is the driving exam in your country.

The answer is:

In order to take the driving licence in Norway, you are first required to take a theoretical test (45 question maximum of 7 wrong), take 13 driving lessons and take the driving exam (drive around with a driving-censor for about an hour) and he will do the final evaluation if you get the driving licence or not

What level are you currently in? (in Norway we have 10 years of compulsory school, and optional from there on out, we're on our 12th year at the moment)
What kind of hobbies are most popular over there after school? :)

The answer is:

Hi,
at our school we have classes in the higher Commercial School (two-year-old vocational school of Economics and Management) and in the commercial high school.
Our class names are for example: 11bw5.
11 means the school year, "bw" means the emphasis Business Administration and "5" means Class 5.
This is our class at the moment.

In Germany we have also 10 years of compulsory school, and then we can continue the school or make a education.

The most popular hobbies after school are sports/ clubs like football or volleyball, swimming, gaming at the computer or PlayStation, shopping and meeting friends.

Students and Teachers

The first step in the project was to get to know each other. To do this we used a web tool called voki which creates lovely animated cartoons which can talk. Unfortunately they could not be tranferred to this blog. But we've got some photos.
